Expecting: Megan + Phil

On one of the prettiest evenings we’ve had so far this Fall, I had to chance to sneak away to the beach and meet Megan and Phil and create some photographs together. They’re brand new to the South Florida area and heard about me through some friends (Hi, Noel! xoxo!). It was one of the most fun shoots I have done this year in terms of the hilarious company, and also one of the most inspiring.

Megan and Phil have been through a tornado of life changes (they met, dated, got engaged, and married… all within a YEAR). They recently moved down to South Florida, and now, sweet little Parker Nathaniel is on his way! He is due mid-December and I am beyond excited to meet this little miracle baby!

Yes, miracle.

In the beginning of Megan’s pregnancy, she went to the doctor after feeling not quite right and was told her body was actively preparing for a miscarriage. All the signs were there. Her womb was silent and no heartbeat was found. Megan and Phil were completely devastated.

On the day they planned to go to the doctor and take care of the miscarriage, Megan and Phil’s hearts were in turmoil about the procedure. Not feeling quite right, they made a team decision to take a non-invasive approach instead and allow her body to take care of it naturally. They got sent home.

Well… nothing happened.

At the follow up appointment, there was a heartbeat. There was a kicking, breathing sweet little boy. There was Parker Nathaniel Milakovic.

Miracles do happen. And I’m proud to share this one with you today.

Steven + Naomi: Expecting

Steven and Naomi are no strangers to challenges. For most of their dating life, they were miles and miles apart. Across the country, across California, you name it. Once these two finally got married, they packed up their things and moved to Miami from California to allow Steven to pursue the residency program for Podiatry that he is in now.

After a few years of being together at last, they are now expecting a little girly!! Oh, how I just adore little girls. All the shopping on Etsy for hair bands, all the sparkle and pink... I love it all. One thing that I can't get enough of from my clients is that they tend to be planners and organizers... and Naomi is just that. Once we had a date confirmed, she booked her hair appointment at Blo in Coral Gables, decided on Vizcaya for the photos, and got to shopping for her outfits. She is a little stylista and I can't wait to see how that is passed down to her baby girly when she arrives!

Naomi and Steven, you two will be rockstar parents. And I can't WAIT to meet your little princess!

I think the most endearing thing about this couple is how they can just let loose and make each other LAUGH.

Noel + James: Expecting

When I was pregnant, it didn't feel real until I was sitting in my insurance office one day, posting checks to patient accounts. And then...

No. Wait. It couldn't be. Sit still, wait longer.

I felt her. My little girl. MY LITTLE GIRL. (!)

New life is beyond exciting and downright scary. The preparation, the anticipation. Making checkpoints. Turning the page on the weekly calendar. The "what if's" and all the things you swear you're going to do, and all the plans you make for things going just right. The first three months are a toss-up and it's always hard to predict how they're going to go. I learned [the hard way] that the best thing to do is to listen to your baby and go with the flow.

I met Noel and James at the beach last weekend to capture a very special moment in their lives. The smell of salt, sunlight, and deteriorating wood walkways surrounded us while we easily moved along the shoreline. After spending a few hours together, I have no doubt in my mind that Noel is going to be the most easygoing, radiant mommy. Her sweetness and "whatever it takes" view on life is going to serve her well when James IV arrives. The sparkles that appear in her eyes when she laughs will no doubt capture her little one, as it already has her husband James. James III and James IV will no doubt have lots of boisterous fun together.

Lots of sweet memories await this little family... many family trips to Hurricanes games, fishing with dad, and lots of Starbucks drive-thru trips with mom ;)

Noel, you glow. I love that the joy and excitement of mommyhood didn't wait long to radiate from your smile. You have been given a wonderous little gift, and you are embracing it and rocking it to the ten thousandth degree. I am so excited for your new adventure as parents!

baby love: Dunia + Max

It's baby season! Lots and lots of my friends are with child and it's such fun to always be talking in a circle of girls where the center of the circle is filled with baby bumps. It's such a blessing. Many people have told me how they would never ever bring a child into this crazy, broken, messed-up world. I can understand where they're coming from. Really I do. Parenting is hard. Nine months is a long time. Eighteen YEARS is a long time. And really, who wants to go without caffeine for that long?

Luckily for me, I know some rockstar women out there ready to take on the challenge. Mothering is tough. Raising a fine, upstanding citizen is a long journey and sometimes doesn't look appealing, but its rewards are great. I am fortunate to know these women because it makes me believe I can do it too, someday.

Dunia and Hayythem (we call him Max for short) found me through a friend. I was honored to be able to get to know them by strolling the exotic flowers at the Morikami Japanese Gardens in Boca Raton. Dunia is a GORGEOUS, strong, Arabian woman who is just the cutest thing. Little Aya (their little girl) is fortunate to have parents who are already so in love with her!

They have so much fun together :)

One thing I learned from Dunia - don't buy maternity clothes. Would you believe that she just buys regular clothes and modifies them? I'm so stealing that idea!

Dunia = GORGEOUS here. Per usual. :)

We stayed at the museum 'til we were kicked out! Dunia & Max were such good sports. I'm so excited for Aya - their newest little addition!
